I had the pleasure of meeting Jennifer AKA “The Fit Devil” a couple of months ago when I realized that my wedding was only a couple of months away and I didn’t want to have wedding pictures taken being as heavy as I was.
Throughout my lifetime, I have tried many different ways to lose weight and have always failed. With The Fit Devil program I learned how to understand the food I eat and how my body works with food. The Fit Devil taught me which foods encourage a healthier lifestyle and healthier living.
For the first time, I feel totally in control and have a whole new outlook on life. Before, I was constantly depressed; fast foods and sweets were my escape. Now, I watch my food intake and get plenty of exercise. I feel great! To date, I am pleased to say that I have lost 23 pounds and 20 inches. I truly do not believe I would have learned everything I did and feel so good about reaching my goals without The Fit Devil and her program. Jennifer is professional yet she has a touching compassion and dedication to her clients. I am thrilled to be able to say that I am part of The Fit Devil program!
Jim Barr defies age to pitch baseball on a competitive level, and he can still bring the heat. Many think Jim can throw a baseball faster, with accuracy, from regular pitching distance, than any man in the world … at his age. Jim credits his ability to play baseball on a competitive level at his age to: regular exercise, eating the right kinds and proper amounts of food, but above all, living a STRESS-FREE life.
4 WAYS Jim Barr AVOIDS STRESS In His Life
Some people think that as we age, life becomes less stressful. That could not be further from the truth! Questions arise about our health, or the health of our spouse or family members; worries about whether we’ll have enough money to see us through our retirement years; and maintaining healthy relationships, when families and friends are often spread out all over the world. However, Jim Barr has come to realize that it was his own “stinkin’ thinkin’” that added to his stress level! And, he set out to change it!
Twenty years ago, Jim concluded that there were four primary reasons why he was experiencing stress: 1) his personal mindset, 2) being a people pleaser, 3) worrying about tomorrow, and 4) not eating properly and exercising regularly.
Given his family history, he should have been concerned, because he lost all of his immediate family members—mother, father, brother, and sister—all to cancer. So, although he has a strong family history of cancer, as a Biology major he did much research and concluded that even though a person has a family history of cancer, something has to trigger the cancer; either the food we eat, the water we drink, environmental conditions, or most of all … stress! It is Jim’s belief that stress prevents our immune system from destroying the cancer cells before they multiply, and is the primary cause of most illness. Jim was determined to counter the conditions that he knew were part of his DNA.
First of all, he “upped his game”, and I mean that literally as well as figuratively. Jim regularly exercises and eats correctly, restricting his eating only to the 14 super foods, which include spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, walnuts, oranges, blue berries, salmon, turkey and other healthy combinations. Not included in his diet are: sugar, salt, bread, wheat products, red meat, fried food, or tap water. In addition, Jim plays baseball on a competitive level, but … at his age! For the past two years, Jim has pitched his Tennessee team to victories in the Roy Hobbs Baseball World Series (for players 50+). So I guess you could say that he is in a “league of his own” considering his age.
Jim’s son, who was an outstanding college baseball player and signed by the St. Louis Cardinals and several others, believe Jim can throw a baseball faster, with accuracy, than any man his age in the world, from a regular pitching distance (60 ft., 6 inches). Randy Hundley, who was a Professional Baseball Catcher in the Major Leagues for 13 years, said “during my two years of playing and coaching in the Roy Hobbs Baseball World Series, Jim Barr throws the ball faster than any pitcher I’ve seen at his age. He struck me out, so he must be pretty good”. The speed of Jim’s pitch was recorded at 75 mph on November 16, 2014, while pitching in the Roy Hobbs Baseball World Series in Ft Myers, FL, but it hasn’t come without sacrifice. For six months prior to participating in the Roy Hobbs Baseball World Series, Jim has a vigorous, two-hour workout, three times a week, which includes throwing 150 pitches without rest in between.
So, these guidelines cover his diet and exercise, but there are three additional ways Jim avoids stress in his life. Jim —
Refrains from second guessing himself
— by changing his mindset. Now, whatever happens in his life, he copes with it by saying to himself: “Everything happens for a purpose or reason.” For this to be applicable Jim believes one must be a Believer and trust there is a divine intervention, or divine guidance, in the situations that develop in his life. Jim has the same hurdles in life that most everyone else has, but he never allows anything to affect him physically, mentally, or emotionally, which is within the power of all our minds.
Accept the fact that everyone will not like him
– This was not an easy dilemma for Jim. There was a stage in his life when this reality caused him a great deal of stress, but not anymore. Although Jim tries to treat everyone right, fair, and honest, if people don’t like him … so be it! Not only is it not a problem for him anymore, it certainly does not cause him any amount of stress. And finally,
Does his absolute best to prepare for tomorrow.
If we spend all our time worrying about what happened yesterday and worse yet, what is going to happen tomorrow, then … there is no today! Jim gives every day, and every person, 150% of his effort. However, if that isn’t good enough, or he doesn’t meet the expectations of others, oh well! It no longer causes him stress, because he knows, in his heart, he has done his absolute best.
Jim realizes that he has been blessed with good health, but he believes his body is God’s temple, and he should be obedient to his Creator and use the intelligence he has been blessed with, by eating the right kinds of food, as well as in the proper amounts, and exercising regularly.
By following his own guidelines, mentioned in this article, Jim has not missed a single day of work due to illness during his 15 years at Gulf Coast State College (where he still works every day), and he has never been late for work. Plus, for the past 20 years, Jim has not had a headache, head cold, upset stomach, or the flu. In fact, Jim has never even taken a flu shot! Jim’s weight is the same (180 lbs.) as it was when he was playing college baseball, and his memory is as good now as it has ever been. Because, you see, Jim believes that just as exercising the body keeps one physically fit, exercising the mind keeps one mentally fit. Based on the results of an intensive physical exam two years ago for an insurance policy, Jim was ranked in the Top 9% of the healthiest men in the world, and was given a Preferred Plus Premium policy.
Jim’s guiding principle is borrowed from the much-acclaimed children’s movie, “Frozen” – when it comes to the stress in your life – just “let it go”! You’ll be a better person, and live a much happier life, as a result.
Biography of JIM BARR
Jim played college baseball for four years, and as a pitcher had a 33 – 5 record.
While living in Tennessee, Jim was a high school Biology teacher, high school basketball and baseball coach; college baseball coach; high school principal; school district Budget Director and District Superintendent of Schools for eight years.
In addition to his current career at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, Florida, Jim is a member of the Panama City Beach Rotary Club; serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Advocates for Children (Guardian ad Litem); served on the Board of Directors for The Emerald Coast Miracle League, which was instrumental in the construction of the Miracle League Field at the Panama City Beach Frank Brown Park (a field for handicapped children, and adults, to play baseball); and served on the Board of Directors for the Bay County American Cancer Society.
Jim pitched his Tennessee team to victories against New Jersey and Boston in the Roy Hobbs Baseball World Series in Ft Myers, and looks forward to many more competitive World Series events moving forward.
Approximately one year ago I had big plans for myself- advance in my career as a registered nurse, continue to go to school, and plan my wedding all while trying to main a stress free and happy life. Nowhere in my “plans” did I take any priority to take care of myself. I didn’t put any attention into my physique, much less to even watch what I eat. I slowly started to feel that I was unhappy…with myself in my own body. I knew at that time I was ready to make a full commitment to transform my body and become healthy. However, little did I know that Jennifer would not only transform my body, but also my life.
In December 2011 I began training with Jennifer. Changes were made right away with a nutrition plan and workout plan provided by Jennifer. Initially, these changes were a bit challenging not to mention, what was I thinking starting around the Holidays! Then I started to see results. I felt so empowered by what my body could do in just a short amount of time. I felt more confident, energized, and just overall pleased. As I progressed, I started to feel that my personal goals were starting to shift towards something different. Something that I never would have thought to cross into any of my “plans” and it was…to enter in a bodybuilding competition.
The day I decided to approach Jennifer with my new goal, I felt as if I was setting the bar way out of my reach. I assumed that I was going to be out of place. I meekly asked Jennifer what her thoughts were on my wanting to compete, she reassured me that I could accomplish anything as long as I was willing to make a solid commitment to myself.
I trained harder and longer for weeks. I kept true to my commitment, however, sometimes I would feel weak. Jennifer pulled me through each time I doubted myself inspiring me that I was more than capable of walking that stage with the rest of them…and I did. I walked that stage like a true bikini competitor with the rest of them. My body, mind, and soul has surpassed any and every expectation I had ever imagined. Jennifer made me realize that I can truly reinvent myself!
When I walked into the office of the “fit-devil” I had no idea what to expect. I had no idea I would be met at the door by a lady that would care more about me and my health than the check I would write for her services. I’ve been to several other facilities over my years of “dieting” that the day my “signed contract” was over they no longer cared about me or my health. I am 51 years old, a wife, a grandmother, a Mom. 6 months ago my cholesterol was 240 and I needed to loose over 100 pounds. I decided that this would be my last attempt to lose weight. If this “diet” didn’t work I would resolve to the fact that I was not going to be able to lose weight ever! In my everyday life it had gotten hard for me to perform my fast paced job that I loved, I was tired all the time and my legs hurt. I needed help! Professional, knowledgeable, dependable, caring help. I honestly felt like it might be impossible for me to lose weight because of my age and because I had so much weight to loose. I just wasn’t sure the program would work, but I was willing to give it a chance. It felt like my last chance. Jennifer gave me information and knowledge that would change the way I live, the way I eat and the way I feel. 6 months after I began the program with Jennifer I am down 68 pounds and my cholesterol went from 240 to a healthy number of 170. My quality of life has improved 100%. I have more energy and I am looking forward to meeting my next goal of 40 pounds and reaching my ideal weight. I love the realistic approach that Jennifer takes to being healthy. I am taking the second half of my weight loss journey not with a skeptical outlook but a positive outlook. I know this program works and I know that I can meet the challenge. I am excited about the knowledge I have gained about living healthy and feeling like I can maintain this lifestyle of living healthy. I honestly believe that with the help I have gotten from the “fit devil” I have added quality of years to my life. I highly recommend that if you’ve tried everything or don’t know where to start on your journey to good health that you meet with Jennifer. She can give you the knowledge you need to make a difference in your life.
Just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your hard work with me. You made such a huge change and commitment in your life when you decided to “go for what you love to do”. I think about the milestones you have accomplished and it really inspires me.

Even though I thought I knew a lot about healthy eating, I know that there are always new things you can learn despite what you think you might know. Jennifer has helped me look at a few things differently and given me great ideas that I never even thought about. I’ve learned quite a few things from her about nutrition that panned out for me while working towards my goals. I learned that healthy eating will help me get the right balance of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. A couple of the big things that I got out her class was to try to plan your meals a week at a time and try to prepackage certain vegetable ahead of time. That way it reduces the amount of time one spends preparing meals and increases the amount of time available to do other things during the work week. She taught us to think about our reasons for healthier eating, think about some small changes, set an easy goal we can obtain. We’ve always had the physical component of a healthy life styles with exercise classes but it is really nice to have the nutritional component as well. Jennifer plans to introduce different things with the start of each new class and I plan to get as much information as I can from her as long as her class is available to me. Today ended the Nutrition class with Jennifer and I wanted to share a few thoughts.
What I have learned in the few short weeks has been phenomenal! The information will not only help myself by the health and well being of my family. From the outset she was very helpful in breaking down the medical jargon and making it [nutrition] easy to understand. I know that the next time I grocery shop my list will be entirely different with the knowledge I have gained by taking this class.
Please bring Jennifer to GCSC(Gulf Coast State College) again and often!

During our conversation she was thrilled to tell me that as result of your class .. she has lost 50 lbs. That is truly amazing. I asked her to send me an e-mail with that testimonial. My name is Karen Rossi and I met you a couple of weeks ago while picking up copies of the ENCORE Course Brochure for our church group, Gulfview United Methodist Church located in PCB. I am the coordinator for Older Adult Activities at our church and I am excited to share your fun, learning opportunities with our 55+ seniors. Attached is a poster I created in hopes to generate interest within our church.
I have personally attended several ENCORE sessions and have thoroughly enjoyed the learning experiences. Particularly the course called “Hitting Your Reset Button” instructed by Jennifer Ashby. All I can say is WOW!! There are not enough words to describe what a difference this class has made on my life. As a result of attending her 6 week class and doing my own online research, I have successfully transformed my physical self and have lost 55 pounds since last September. I have more energy, I feel better about myself and everyone has noticed. To go from a size 20W to a 12 is quite remarkable, but definitely doable, if you really want to change.
Jennifer’s style of instruction is the epitome of an excellent, passionate teacher. Accompanied by a great sense of humor helps ease the terrible truth of what corporate America is selling us. She looks at you square in the eye and tells it like it is when it comes to nutrition, portion control and healthy eating habits. I believe in what she teaches and I am what you call… the proof is in the pudding (no pun intended). One of things that really stuck in my mind is eat like a king in the morning, eat like a prince in the afternoon and eat like a pauper at night. It works!
In her teachings, she offers a once a week cheat day. A cheat day is a day you can eat whatever you want, whether it be pancakes smothered with pecans and syrup, grilled reuben with french fries, lasagna and garlic bread, banana split, etc. This way, you are not depriving yourself of foods you like to eat. But, as I have realized, my food preferences and choices are very different since I’ve taken her class.
You might think I’ve turned vegetarian, far from that. But, I have switched from fried foods to broiled foods, eating red meat once a week (eggs, chicken and fish other days), using spices to excite and please my palate, eating more fruits and vegetables, eating sweet potato vs white potato, brown rice vs white rice…. the choices are endless and nutritious.
As I’ve said, there are not enough words to describe the impact this class has had on my life. I feel like I’m 30 years old (I’m 59) and I’m thinking about writing a book “How I lost 50 pounds without dieting”. LOL. Diets never work. It’s all about making the right food choices.
In conclusion, I will work hard at encouraging our church group to attend your ENCORE program. It’s all good.
